Last summer my friends and I had a fantastic experience in Kenya. We had the good luck of having Richard as our tour guide with whom we could talk in Spanish but we could practice our English too.
We did a 5 day tour which started at Nairobi airport. Richard came to pick us up at the airport and from there he took us to Naivasha. I still remember the excitement of seeing our first giraffe on the way, it was fantastic! In Naivasha we rode a boat and walked amongst some of the animals, close enough to see them but far enough away so as not to be in danger.
From there we went to the lodge in Nakuru where we had lunch and went on our first safari.
From Nakuru we went to Masai Mara. There we stayed in a camp with well equipped and quite comfortable tents. Everything was spectacular, we saw the big five, we laughed a lot during the safaris, we ate in the shade of a tree in the middle of the reserve, we learned a lot about animals and culture and we were even helping or rather, giving conversation to a family that had had a car breakdown in the reserve.
We spent unforgettable moments doing the safaris but also chatting with the Maasai at the lodge, learning Swahili and teaching them Spanish so that they could show off to future Spanish guests and name the food in Spanish. On the last day we were able to greet and name the food in Swahili even though "thank you and you're welcome" got a bit mixed up - what great memories!
I advise everyone who is thinking of going on safari to do it if they can because it is an unforgettable experience and Richard does his job always thinking about the welfare of the clients but taking into account the welfare of the animals and the locals as well.
